"Growing up on the coast my younger days were spent in surf clubs and swimming clubs....but I always wanted to be a cowboy."

Born on the coast of NSW most of my early life revolved around surf clubs and swimming clubs. My schooling was through the catholic system so I know what it feels like to be motivated by the threat of punishment. My Father was an S.P. Bookmaker and most of what I saw in relation to horses was negative. I saw people lose their savings, wages, homes and marriages.

As much as I loved the beach I always wanted to be a cowboy and at around the age of 30, after having what was described to me as an epiphany, I decided to change the direction my life was heading in and start "living my life on purpose". So began my journey into horsemanship.......

Like most people I started off learning traditional horsemanship but soon realised that something was seriously wrong. I asked myself these questions: "Why do I need to punish my horse to get a result?" "How can I have a better relationship with my horse?" Then in 1988 my whole way of thinking about horses changed. I discovered Natural Horsemanship.... and Pat Parelli.........

I was asked to join Pat Parelli's Instructors Program in the early 90's and became a fully endorsed Instructor, only retiring in December 2002 to focus on my own business interests. On my natural horsemanship journey I have also had the privilege to learn from other great natural horsemen such as Buck Brannaman (the original horse whisperer) and Ray Hunt. I would like to thank these wonderful horsemen and teachers for giving me inspiration in my endeavour to change my life.

My wife, Colleen, and I opened Horse Whispering Lodge in August 2001. We call our centre here in the Hunter Valley a HORSE & HUMAN EDUCATION CENTRE. It is our sincere desire to make a difference in peoples lives. After all, natural horsemanship is not about horses........its all about humans.

"May your life be filled
with good horses......"
